Since graduation, I was fortunate to be selected to join KPMG as a Software Engineering Consultant.

When it comes to technology consulting, knowing how to quickly learn the tech tools to the level of working proficient is the key to achieve success in the project goals.

To me, the first month of any job is the best time for trial and error. Being the child of internet, I would learn (almost) everything from any online resources available and apply them into my projects (even though mistakes do occur occasionally due to lack of familiarity with the tools).

But then again, one of the most important mindsets for a technology consultant is to embrace the mindset of “learning fast through failing fast”. Anyone who choose to conserve themselves in their comfort zone are merely delaying their own growth opportunities to learn from practice.

We may not be the most proficient person in using the tools; we may or was given with task you were not experienced in, take pride in delivery them to the best of your ability anyway!

Speaking of learning, KPMG really do support the learning of their employees more than most other organizations, but they are not schools after all, learning how to learn is more important than anything else.

Overall, it was indeed a good experience working in KPMG under the FTO department. The managers and colleagues were very professional to work with, and if one is lucky enough, they will be able to gain experience in different industries, organizations of different sizes, and to learn about pretty much anything that interests them.
